Preparing for WInter

Sauerkraut,dried, beans, root cellar and meat stored in lard are not food we normally think about or even know about. But they were standard fare in the past when most food was grown in the summer and preserved for winter use. Meat was fried and packed in lard. Green beans were strung on string and hung to dry. Fruits and vegetables were put into the cool root cellar. All these were common methods of food preservation. Come visit the 1910 Buckley Homestead farm and pioneer farm to also learn how to make sauerkraut (Pickling in salt) and slice pumpkins and apples to dry. Park at the vistiors center and walk the trail to the sites.
