Feeling froggy? Come celebrate World Water Day at Gibson Woods! We’ll spend our time learning about one of our favorite aquatic friends... the frog! Learn about all the different croaks, and ribbits and what the difference is between a frog and a toad. Stick around as we’ll take a short walk around the park to see if any froggy friends are out to find.

Spring has sprung and nature is a great place to spend some time during spring break! Each day will focus on a different topic and campers will have a chance to explore the wonders of Gibson Woods. Campers will need to bring their own lunch; a light snack will be provided. Sign up for the whole week or just one day- whatever fits your schedule. Camp will be happening Monday March 26 – Thursday March 29 from 9 AM-3:30 PM. If these dates don’t work out for you, we will be having another camp Monday April 2- Friday April 6.

Identifying birds on sight is a valuable birding skill, but can you also spot them by their song? Let’s learn together! Join us as we learn the songs and calls of birds commonly found throughout Lake County. This program will carry us through March happening on Wednesdays(March 7,14,21,28) and then in late April we’ll start hiking through Gibson Woods for our Weekly Migration Hikes where we can put our new identifying skills to work! This program is free but registration is required, call 219-844-3188.

Known for their spectacular flight and distinctive call, the American Woodcock is recognized as one of the earliest signs of spring! Join us at 7:15 PM at Oak Ridge Prairie and usher in spring with the American Woodcock. (Rain date is Wednesday, April 4th.)

Come out to Gibson Woods anytime between 10am and 2 pm on Friday, March 30 and celebrate the start of the new season, and learn about all the different animals that hatch from eggs . Kids can partake in egg-citing games, and make a fun craft to take home. This event is for all ages.
