Grand Kankakee Marsh County Park Waterfowl Hunting Regulations

  1. Draw for blinds will be at 4:30 am at the check in cabin each day of the posted season.
  2. You must have a party of 3 or 4 licensed hunters to draw.
  3. The fee is $10.00, $5.00 seniors (65+), $5.00 youths per person per day.
  4. Shooting time varies depending on the blind number.  Please know the shooting time for your blind.
  5. Hunters are required to sign a liability waiver before hunting.
  6. Hunters will leave their hunting license at the check in cabin.
  7. Non-toxic shot is required.
  8. 25 shell limit.
  9. Up to 4 people are allowed in each blind.
  10. Areas designated as “refuge” are non-violate.  Trespassing by either hunters or dogs is strictly not allowed.
  11. Hunters must check in all game harvested.
  12. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in any hunting areas or the check in cabin.
  13. Violation of any GKM hunting regulations may result in the loss of hunting privileges at GKM for the season.  Beyond the GKM regulations understand and comply with all regulations set by the IDNR and USFWS.

Late Goose Season Hunting Information

  1. 6:30 pm draws beginning on January 3, 2018.  Parties of 2-4 may draw
  2. Hunters will be able to choose from 5 zones in which to hunt.  Hunters will be allowed to hunt anywhere they choose within the zone with specific restricted areas.
  3. A weekly fee of $40.00 will be charged after the draw.  This fee will allow hunters use of the zone during legal shooting times from the Thursday after the draw until the following Tuesday.
  4. If no hunters are present for the draw hunting will be closed until the following Wednesday.
  5. All hunters must sign the liability waiver sheet before entering the property.  This sheet only needs to be signed once for the entire season.
  6. All Hunters must write the time they enter and exit the property on the sign in sheet located on the cabin.
  7. Shooting times are legal shooting time until legal shooting time in all zones.
  8. At least one hunter in the party must have been present at the draw whenever a party is in the field.
  9. Maximum number of hunters allowed in each zone is 4.  All hunters must hunt as a single party.
  10. Restricted areas include:  Gooselake refuge, Hogmarsh refuge, and area east and north of blind 12.
  11. Only one boat will be left per zone.  Hunters will be expected to return boat to original position after their last hunt.
  12. All hunters must turn in a Goose Hunting information sheet after their last hunt.  All information will remain confidential until the end of the season

Frequently Asked Questions about Waterfowl Hunting at Grand Kankakee Marsh County Park:

  1. Is there a draw?

Yes, a daily draw occurs at 4:30 during each day of the waterfowl season.  No fee is collected to draw.  You must have 3 or four members of your party present at 4:30 to draw.  Singles or parties of 2 will be allowed to hunt stand by if any blinds are available.

2. Is there a fee to hunt?

Yes, the fee is $10.00 per person and $5.00 for youths and seniors.

3.  What are the shooting times at the blinds?

A shooting schedule will be published that will identify which blinds will be open for the day and what the shooting times will be.  Throughout the season blinds available for hunting and what the shooting times will be.

4.  Do you have crops at any of the blinds?

Yes, corn is planted at the following blinds: 6, 8, 3, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21.

5. Do you I need to bring a boat?

No boats are available at all blinds that need them.

6.  Do you have a shell Limit?

Yes. Shell limit is 25 and is strictly enforced.

7. Will you offer late goose hunting until February 11, 2018

Yes, draws will begin at 6:30 pm on January 3, 2018

Violation of any GKM hunting regulation may result in the loss of hunting privileges at GKM for the season
.  Beyond the GKM regulations understand and comply with those set by the Indiana DNR and the USFWS

2016-2017 Deer Regulations

    1. Hunters are required to sign a liability release form prior to hunting
    2. Hunters must check in and leave their deer-hunting license at the check in station before hunting
    3. A $20.00 permit fee is required.  Fee is good until season closes or deer is harvested.  
    4. Hunters are allowed to harvest a total of 4 deer off the property each year.  With only one antlered animal allowed to be harvested.
    5. Tree stands must be legibly marked with the owner’s name, address, and telephone number.
    6. Hunters are limited to one stand per individual per area.
    7. All tree stands must be removed from park property no later than February 1.
    8. Hunters shall contact park personnel when a wounded deer goes off the property or enters a closed area.
    9. Check-in time will be at 5:00 am each day of the posted season.  Site choice will be on a first come first serve basis unless more hunters are present at 5:00 am than there are available spots, in which case a draw will take place.
    10. Hunters shall check in all deer harvested on the property at the check station and report to park personnel any deer that are wounded but not harvested.
    11. Shooting times for all deer seasons will be ½ hour before sunrise till ½ hour after sunset.
    12. No rifles or handguns are allowed.  Shotguns and muzzleloaders are only firearms allowed to be used during firearms and youth seasons

    Frequently Asked Questions about Grand Kankakee Marsh Deer Hunting:

    1. Do I have to pay in addition to my Indiana Hunting license?

    Yes. A $20.00 permit fee is required for each season and covers you until the season closes or you have filled your tag.  This means that if you wish to hunt during the archery season you pay $20.00.  This fee will cover you until the end of the season if you do not harvest an animal.  Once an animal is harvested you must pay an additional $20.00 if you want to continue hunting during archery season.  You are allowed to harvest a total of two deer during the Archery season.  If you wish to hunt during muzzleloader or firearms season you need to pay an additional $20.00 per season.

    2. Do I need a hunting license to hunt at the Park?

    Yes. Always make sure you purchase the correct hunting license for the correct season.  Park does not honor urban licenses.  However you can hunt with a bundle license sold by the state.

    3. Do you have a special antlerless season?

    No. Hunting pressure at the park is sufficient without the need for a special season. 

    4. How many deer can I harvest at the park?

    Four in total. Two during archery, one during firearms, and one during muzzleloader.  With no more than one being an antlered deer.  Also firearms season at the park is antlered deer only.

    5. Are areas of the park off limits to deer hunting?

    Yes. Come to the check station and we will identify areas that are off limits to deer hunting.  Most of these areas that are close to waterfowl hunting areas.  Also some areas may allow hunting with only certain equipment.

    6. Do I have to walk to my stand?

    Yes, but there are parking areas located within the park that you are allowed to drive to.  Maps located in the cabin will highlight the parking areas.

    7. Is there a draw every day?

    Only if number of hunters out-numbers allowed per hunting area at 5:00 am.  After that we will operate on a first come first served basis.  Hunters are expected to be respectful to other hunters when it comes to check in and check out time.  There is no charge to draw.

    8. Can I hunt with a rifle or hand gun?

    No. Only shotguns and muzzleloaders are allowed during the firearm season.
