Get your hands dirty! The American Psychological Association has found that gardening and exposure to nature has profound mental health benefits. Lake County Parks is happy to foster that communion with nature through a variety of plant and gardening programs and activities.

Do you have a green thumb, and some spare time? Consider volunteering to help plant and maintain our flower beds and green spaces. Your handiwork will be appreciated by all who visit the park throughout the year.

Gardening events

Throughout the year Lake County Parks hosts a variety of gardening and horticulture events. These events include: 

  • Perennial Plant Swaps at Deep River County Park 
    • Spring Perennial Plant Swap in April
    • Fall Perennial Plant Swap in September
  • Native Plant Sales at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve
  • Wild Ones: Native Plants & Gardens meetings at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve
